Speeding Offences

It is very easy to be caught speeding these days with all the static fixed cameras and hand-held devices that the Police have adopted. But as with every form of technology, inaccuracies and discrepancies can occur. If you believe you have been wrongly accused of a speeding offence then don’t swallow the points and the fine, contact a motoring solicitor who can help you develop a case to contest the offence and defend your licence.

There are a few of ways in which you can defend a speeding allegation and the most common are:

1. Were you in fact the driver at the time of the alleged offence?
2. Did you in fact exceed the speed limit?

These arguments are not easy to win on your own and it is always highly recommend that you  seek specialist legal advice if you are accused of a speeding offence.  There are a lot of technicalities that the prosecution may have to prove to convict you of an offence.  In addition there is a lot of case law that assists specialists like us in defending your case. Here at Gray and Co Solicitors, we have seasoned expertise and experience in providing defence in speeding cases and understand just how complex defending yourself as a lay person can be.

If you are convicted of a speeding offence then you can receive a maximum penalty of a fine up to £1000.00 together with 3 to 6 points on your licence or even a disqualification.  You need to be aware that accumulating 12 penalty points on your licence can result in you being disqualified under the Totting Up provisions.

If you’re a new driver then different rules apply. If you acquire six or more penalty points within the first two years of passing your test then both your full and provisional driving licences will be revoked, meaning you have to take lessons and tests all over again. This means a speeding offence could actually cause you to lose your licence. This can be a potentially devastating situation but here at Gray and Co Solicitors we can help you to contest the offence and prevent you from having to re-take your driving test all over again.

If you’re at risk of losing your licence we sincerely advise you get in touch with one of our friendly team today; driving disqualifications can have serious consequences, even causing job loss in some situations.
