Riot – Section 1

Public Order Offences Solicitors

While fairly rare, involvement in a riot is certainly the most serious Public Order offence, and therefore can only be processed in the Crown Court.

A riot is defined as twelve or more people present together who used or threatened unlawful violence for a common purpose; and that the conduct of them was such as to cause a present person of reasonable firmness to fear for his/her personal safety.

With a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and the possibility of an unlimited fine, the punishment for involvement in a riot reflects the seriousness of the offence.

If you have been arrested or charged with a riot-related Public Order offence, contact us today on 01244 344299 for expert advice and representation.
